Bytown District is home to approximately 3000 players, many more District/Association/team volunteers, around 130 officials and ten public and private arenas. It is the third largest District (in terms of membership) in the Branch.  Its catchment area is within the old City of Ottawa boundary (prior to the 2001 amalgamation) in addition to Canadian Forces Base Uplands in the former City of Gloucester.  Bytown District contains five home associations, who offer programs from Initiation Program for 4-6 year olds up to the Juvenile program for players 18-20 years old who have aged out of minor hockey.  Bytown home association players participate in house league play in the Bytown Minor Hockey League.

Bytown is governed by a District Council, which consists of elected and appointed executives, and those executives who represent the eight minor hockey associations in the District.  Meetings are held monthly.  The District Chair also participates in HEO Minor Council, a minor hockey table which includes HEO Minor executive, districts, leagues and the Branch Minor Referee-in-Chief.  The District Referee-In-Chief also participates in the Branch Referee-In-Chief's minor hockey officiating table.  The District and its eight Associations carry one vote each to HEO's and HEO Minor's Annual General Meetings.
